I've been digging quite a few discs of late. Last night went to see Jolie Holland play here in Phoenix. What a voice, what a subtle, but great band, what a great opener in Sean Hayes. I purchased a Ms. Holland's tour-only disc at the show. I'm also waiting for Athlete's latest ("Tourist" import only) to arrive in the mail. So here is a list of tunes that have been rocking my world of late.
-Bright Eyes-"I'm Wide Awake It's Morning"-Conor's best album to date. -Mary Gauthier-"Mercy Now"-The title track just gives me goosebumps. What a talent. If you like Lucinda Williams. -Nathan-"Jimson Weed"-Canadian country/folk/rock band. Oh, those sweet voices and head bopping tunes. -Mark Geary-"Ghosts"-Irish troubadour's finest set yet! -M. Ward-"Transfiguration Of Vincent"- Matt's new disc drops Tuesday, can't wait. -Brazilian Girls- "Brazilian Girls"- Funky, sexy, sweaty and all over the damn place, somehow it works. -The Frames- "Burn The Maps"-Not my favorite Frames record. Sorry Frames fans, I love the band, but this is a letdown for me. - Lemon Jelly-"64-95"- Wow, electronica at it's best. Best package design as well. -Various Artists-"Sweetheart II"- You have to go to fecking Starbucks to buy this disc. I never shop there unless they release a disc worth buying They have. This is one of the greatest cover records/compilations I've ever heard. -Various Artists-" Sounds Eclectic III" KCRW, the world's best radio station releases it's 8th disc. They never get it wrong! Besides M. Ward's new disc. Tuesday(2/22/05) we see Iron & Wine release a new E.P. Clem Snide has a new one and I'll be one happy, but poorer ($) man. |

My list | ||

I've really been enjoying that Ray demo cd. Other artists of note:
The Jayhawks - Rainyday Music...such an awesome album & I'm yet to pass that on to someone and not have them completely fall in love with it. Wilco - all of their albums...but I have been on a steady diet of YHF and A Ghost is Born for while. AGB continues to grow and show me new things. Better Than Ezra - My wife and I have been big fans since high school. Great music and great performers. They have a greatest hits coming out in March and a new album in April. If you don't own anything from them, then check out How Does Your Garden Grow - fantastic. I agree with many others on here that Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, Keane, and of course the mighty Modest Mouse are great. Someone else mentioned the Kings of Leon and they are such a rocking group...be sure to catch them opening up for U2 this year. A couple of years ago the state of music was looking bleak, I don't think so anymore. There's actually almost too much good stuff to keep up with right now. |

One more thing... | ||

Has anyone bought the Life Aquatic soundtrack? I love the Brazilian versions of David Bowie from the movie. Just wondering if all of those tracks are on the cd and how enjoyable the rest of the disc is. Thanks.

Bought the new Jack Johnson last Tuesday when it came out. It's great
I didn't listen to it all weekend, since I was sick, so I can't give you any specifics at the moment. The benadryl and cough medicine are affecting my memory I heard this band called Aqualung when I was in Park City in January. They have a song on the Paste magazine CD from that month too. They're really mellow and kind of ethereal. I haven't picked up their CD yet, but it's only a matter of time. |

I forgot. I bought the new Tori Amos CD too. It's odd, but it's growing on me.
And I'm listening to a bunch of local San Diego musicians. Saba, Dustin Shey, Jane Lui and an LA transplanted Alaskan named Kate Earl. |
